28.10.11 . San Diego

The last evening of our trip. We did some grocery shopping at Trader Joe's (because obviously, I must take two cases of the GREATEST HUMMUS ON EARTH back home). Then we drove to Pacific Beach and looked at the sunset. It was a  proper sunset and it said: do come back some day.

26.10.11 . Palm Springs

Two things about the ACE hotel in Palm Springs that make my heart sing: the Desert Facial cocktails and the beds. Before we left, I flipped our mattress and photographed its label. Oath to myself: one day I will figure out how to get one shipped to Germany. Then stay in bed for a week.

25.10.11 . Phoenix . Arizona

I've heard that it is above 40 degrees in summer in Phoenix and that you have to wait for over an hour to get a table at Matt's Big Breakfast. On October, 25. it was a comfy 27 degrees outside and a whooping 0 minute wait for our beautiful table by the window. Alex and I would like to award 5 greasy spoons to one of the most delicious breakfasts of our life.

24.10.11 . Navajo Nation National Park . Utah

When you go to Monument Valley, take the horse tour. It is brilliant. You get to be alone with Tito and he'll explain to you why Indians don't grow beards, how Germans and Scots are described in the Navajo language, what the names of the valley's rock formations are, how an Indian's life is divided in four stages and what it means if a coyote is crossing your way. He will however not teach you how to look less ridiculous on a horse.
